Wolds Women of Influence Bringing Louisa Boucherett and The Caistor Workhouse Children to life

Discover how the hugely popular Wolds Women of Influence exhibition found a new home with the award-winning Market Rasen’s Heritage Tour, from four members of the team involved.

Learn the potted histories of the six historic women featured, and find out how you can take the tour on foot or online.

Get to know one Wolds Woman of Influence in particular, Louisa Boucherett, and find out how her work in the 1860s, with children from Caistor’s workhouse, was a forerunner to the system of foster care used worldwide, today.

Hear how the team shone a light on Louisa’s little-known story in a new video featuring local actor Gail Dennis, and the challenges that came with the filming: covid restrictions, Market Rasen traffic, damp walls, and a Georgian courtroom in completely the wrong place.

Find out how ten modern Wolds children lent their faces to the workhouse children from the 1860s, bringing them to life alongside Louisa’s moving descriptions of their circumstances.
