Indulge in a Long Weekend of Great Food & Drink

Lincolnshire has long been at the forefront of agriculture and farming, producing one eighth of the UK’s food, and processing 70% of its fish. The finest crops of barley, wheat, oilseed rape and sugar beet are grown across Lincolnshire– and the UK’s biggest fish market is situated along the Lincolnshire coast, so it should come as no surprise that the Lincolnshire Wolds boasts some of the country’s best local producers, pubs and places to dine.

So, take your time to enjoy the culinary delights that the Lincolnshire Wolds has to offer.

Begin your long weekend, with a warm welcome and superb breakfast at the March Hare, at the heart of Market Rasen. Renowned within the town as providing the best, locally roasted, coffee and a contemporary menu packed with local produce, it’s a fantastic way to start your long weekend.

Whilst you’re in Market Rasen, you must pop into The Chocolate Drop, for some fine, handmade, special edition chocolate. Every visitor gets a warm welcome with an unbelievable tasting experience and the opportunity to have a chat about all aspects of producing chocolate. And, if you’ve not quite satisfied your sweet tooth, head to Wrights of Willingham Ice Cream Parlour, for a taste of their delicious Wolds Gold flavour. Their parlour and tearoom is nestled at the foot of the Lincolnshire Wolds, with stunning views across the rolling hills.

Next, head to Caistor, the charming Wolds town nestled on the hillside at the northern edges of the Wolds, at almost the highest point in Lincolnshire. You will find many places to eat in Caistor and the weekly markets are held in the historic market place every Saturday. If you can extend your long weekend, include a visit to the monthly evening Caistor Street Food Market, which is held on the 1st Wednesday of every month and showcases an array of street foods, as well as selected local artisan foods and crafts.

No visit to the Lincolnshire Wolds would be complete, without exploring the Wolds’ gastronomic foodie town of Louth, with its vibrant markets and successful independent retailers. Described as a ‘Food Mecca’, it’s packed with food producers and deli shops – perfect for sampling some of Lincolnshire’s finest produce, such as speciality cheeses, Lincolnshire Plum Loaf and Baci & Co’s authentic Italian Gelato! This multi award winning gelato parlour produces handcrafted gelato made on the premises fresh every day. Adopting a real artisan approach one pan at a time from scratch with only the best ingredients sourced both locally and direct from Italy to give a truly authentic Gelato.

You’ll be spoilt for choice when choosing your favourite local tipple as well, with the likes of Luda Brewing Co, Bottomley Distillers, Massingberd Mundy Gin and Ovens Farm Vineyard to choose from! All influenced by the stunning landscapes that surround them – they have plenty of products for you to sample and Luda Brewing Co will happily show you around their brewery, with one of their special tours!

To the south, known as the ‘Gateway to the Lincolnshire Wolds’ is the historic town of Horncastle, with its cosy tearooms and quintessential English pubs. Treat yourself to Afternoon Tea at the Admiral Rodney Hotel - but make sure you pop into Myers Bakery & Deli before you leave, to pick up their famous award-winning Lincolnshire Plum Loaf to take home with you.
