Step by step instructions
  1. Let's set off!
  2. 1

Start at Candlesby church, go through the gate into the churchyard and follow the path to the left of the church, then leave the churchyard on the footpath in the corner. Turn left onto a farm track, following it for only a few yards, then take the path on the left, over a stile and along the field edge. Cross a bridge into the next field and bear diagonally right towards the wooded area. On reaching the field edge turn left and follow the path to the road (Gunby Lane).

  3. 2

Cross the road and continue straight ahead over the stile into the grounds of Gunby Hall. Follow the path heading to the right of the Hall and gardens and go through a kissing gate. Bear slightly left and walk parallel to the fence line, past the house to the church.

  4. 3

At the far end of the churchyard, turn right across the park to a stile beside a gate. To visit Gunby Hall turn left at the churchyard. Cross over the stile and continue ahead to another stile. Turn left and follow the field edge to a stile. Cross over the stile and follow the track as it bears right between a hedge and trees.

  5. 4

Just after where a second track joins from the left, turn left along a footpath, keeping the trees on your right. Carry straight on across a cultivated field to the old railway line. Continue straight ahead along the field edge, to a stile and interpretation board. Continue straight on beside the fence line, walking over the remains of Bratoft Hall, a medieval moated manor. At the end of the moat turn right to a stile. Cross the stile and turn left to follow the track to the road.

  6. 5

At the road turn left, passing the interpretation board. Take the next right past Bratoft Church and through the village of Bratoft.

  7. 6

Walk through the spread out village and approximately 25m past the village sign turn left onto a footpath. Cross the field to a bridge. Cross the bridge and continue ahead to a stile. Walk straight across the caravan site to a gate and road.

  8. 7

Turn right and walk along the lane for approximately 25m until you reach a public footpath on the left. Turn down this footpath and go through two gates and over a stile. Bear slightly right to the field corner. At the corner turn right and then bear left across the field to a stile in the field corner. Cross the stile and walk straight ahead beside a ditch. After approximately 150m, at a junction of paths, turn right and walk along the field edge and then grass track. At a junction of tracks continue straight ahead along the track to a stile. Cross the stile and walk along the field edge before bearing left to a gate and stile in the conifer hedge behind the bungalows. Walk to the left hand corner of the small field and follow the path to the road.

  9. 8

Turn left and then right to follow the road through Burgh le Marsh to the Market Place. You can pick up the InterConnect 56 bus at this point to return to the start of the walk at Candlesby.

  10. You made it! Well done.
