The Joseph Banks Centre is the perfect place to start your visit to Horncastle and the Lincolnshire Wolds. Our tourist information can help you find everything that our area has to offer, from heritage to outstanding natural beauty.
Explore our community run museum where you’ll uncover stories of people that made history from botanists and explorers, to hangmen and convicts.
Step into our beautiful courtyard oasis where you’ll find a garden dedicated to Sir Joseph Banks and the exotic plants he helped discover. Inside you’ll find displays inspired by Banks’s own collections you’ll find plant and insect specimens, as well as botanical artwork. We hold the Lincolnshire Herbarium created in collaboration with the Natural History Museum.
The Centre is the place to go to discover Horncastle’s history. From its mysterious Roman roots, to the town’s Great August Horse Fair that was once the largest in the world. We hold the Town Archive run by Horncastle History & Heritage Society. Get in touch if you’d like our volunteers to help you find out more about the town’s history or your local ancestors.
