The festive season is well and truly upon us and there is so much fun to be had across the Wolds for the whole family.
Christmas lights across our market towns are starting to be lit up, illuminating the streets full of colour and creating an amazing festive atmosphere. Christmas markets, Festive Fabuloso, Pantomimes and so much more are being held in our great county for you to come along to and enjoy!
Christmas Markets in the Wolds
It wouldn’t feel like Christmas without having a Christmas market to go and visit, would it? Luckily, within the Lincolnshire Wolds you’ll be spoilt for choice with the amount of Christmas markets taking place here. As you can see below, Alford, Spilsby, Skegness and Louth are kicking off the festive fun with their markets being held on the 26th and/or the 27th of November, with some of our other market towns following this. The Christmas markets within the Wolds provide a place for families to go and get into the Christmas spirit through seeing fantastic light displays, eating seriously good food from local food businesses and hearing sleigh bells from your favourite Christmas songs. So, make sure you come along and don’t miss out!
Wolds Festival of Light: A celebration of light, sound and creativity.
After the great success of last year, Festive Fabuloso is back and will be bigger and better than ever! After successfully applying for Arts Council funding, East Lindsey District Council were awarded £30,000 to deliver this for another year. Festive Fabuloso will see the towns of Alford, Horncastle, Louth, Spilsby and Wainfleet brought to life with illuminations, street theatre and some fantastical, creative, interactive installations! As well as the ‘Fabuloso Organ’, there will be a Shadow Puppet stage, a Digital Graffiti station, entertaining street performers, food & drink stalls and a brand new ‘Carousel Fabuloso’. Festive Fabuloso will visit each town for an afternoon and evening during early December:
Friday 2 December: Horncastle Market Place, 4pm – 8pm
Friday 9 December: Alford Market Place, 4pm – 8pm
Saturday 3 December: Wainfleet Market Place, 12noon – 6pm
Saturday 10 December: Spilsby Market Place, 4pm – 8pm
Thursday 8 December: Louth Cornmarket, 4pm – 8pm
Festive Fun in the Wolds
Finding events for the family to go to in the Wolds will not be an issue. Below you can view an event from each of our market towns that is happening over the festive period. Although this is not an exhaustive list, as many more events all over the Wolds can be found by clicking here!
Caistor Street Food Market - Caistor Street Food Market is set to take place on the 7th of December in Caistor Park. An opportunity for you and the family to try and see some of the best local street food, homemade crafts and Lincolnshire products.
Boxing Day at the Races, Market Rasen - One of the first things that comes to mind when you say Market Rasen is the fantastic racecourse. On the 26th of December, Market Rasen Racecourse are hosting ‘Boxing Day at the Races’, an afternoon full of entertainment for everyone to enjoy!
Horncastle Window Wanderland - After the great success of last year’s Window Wanderland, it is returning for another year. Running from the 8th – 11th December (5:30-9PM), the windows of Horncastle will be lit up in colour for everyone to see!
Alford Christmas Craft Market - This isn’t any craft market, it’s Alford Craft Market! Running on Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th November, Alford Craft Market host their Christmas Craft Market from the Alford Corn Exchange. A craft market that has been going since 1974 and only approved Lincolnshire makers are in attendance, so come along and support local businesses!
Christmas Tree Festival, Louth - The famous St James’s Church will be the home of Louth’s very own Christmas tree festival. Running from December the 2nd to December the 6th, the church will be open daily for visitors to come and visit the festival.
Spilsby Cracker Day - The annual Spilsby Cracker Day is back for another year! Located in the Franklin Hall on the 3rd of December, there will be stalls, music, food and refreshments all available for visitors to enjoy.

What is something which everyone loves about the Christmas period? Food! This is likely a common answer for a lot of people. So, look out for several restaurants within the Lincolnshire Wolds which are adding unusual festive foods to their menus.
The Panacea in Louth have created a whole new Christmas food and drink menu, which features a Christmas twist on their famous hanging skewers. The Auction House in Louth are also creating a Christmas menu, featuring festive dishes such as Roast Turkey Breast or Slow Cooked Beef Hotpot. Some restaurants like The Woolpack Inn are doing festive deals, such as 3 courses for £35pp from December the 1st-23rd. These are just a few examples, but there are restaurants all over the Wolds adding similar unique twists to their menus or offering deals to their customers. So, check out your local restaurants and see what you can find!

Shopping locally, whether it’s your Christmas shopping or everyday food supplies, provides so many benefits to the local community and now, more than ever, this is so important. There is a real community spirit with many of the smaller businesses in the Wolds, they are always looking to support each other. So, if you support one local business it will likely have knock on effects supporting many others operating within the Wolds. The Lincolnshire Wolds are blessed with an abundance of local independent shops to cater for all your needs, whether it’s the fabulous food shops in Louth or the antiques and artisan shops in Horncastle, always try to shop locally wherever possible.
