The West Lindsey Aviation Guide allows visitors discover the airfields and memorials that are part of Lincolnshire's history. 

Military flying began before World War I and back then the people of the District saw very few aeroplanes. From the mid-1930s the RAF expanded and new airfields were constructed to accommodate the new aircraft that were being brought into service. The District soon had three new airfields under construction, with both Hemswell and Scampton operational at the outbreak of WWII.

During WWII a massive expansion programme saw airfields being built all over the District and as you drive around today you can see the remnants of many of these bases and their infrastructure. Some of these sites are featured in this booklet and they may be on private land; so please respect the privacy of those locations.
