Illuminate 2024

09 Mar 2024

Illuminate Gainsborough returns with its beautiful lantern parade and magnificent fire garden.

Previous years have marked the town’s connection to the Mayflower Pilgrims’ story. This year’s theme is ‘Love, Gainsborough’, reflecting on the town and its communities.

There's a full day planned for visitors to enjoy a day out in Gainsborough. Visit the Monthly Farmers & Craft Market, followed by an Illuminate market through the afternoon and evening (2pm to 8pm), with a range of food and craft stalls.

Join the parade starting at 5.30pm, starting in Lord Street. The parade will make its way through the town centre via the Market Place and then Church Street, ending adjacent to the Parish Church in Gladstone Street.

Please note children should be accompanied by a responsible guardian; road closures will be in place.

Make your own lantern to bring to the parade, either at home (using a milk bottle or clear jar for example) or join us on the day to make one at All Saints' Parish Church between 10.30am to 2pm (drop in anytime).

From 6pm, fire sculptures will be set alight and performers will dance and entertain visitors in the grounds of All Saints’ Parish Church, and the grounds of Gainsborough Old Hall will host a display of lanterns and performers until 7.30pm. The Old Hall’s shop and café will also be open, and refreshments will be available in the Parish Church.

This year’s Illuminate activities have been made possible thanks to funding from West Lindsey District Council and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Gainsborough Town Council.

Enjoy a day out to this historic market town. Explore the historic town centre with its independent shops and Marshalls Yard shopping centre within easy walking distance. Gainsborough is also home to the magnificent Gainsborough Old Hall as well as many other nearby attractions and things to do.
