What the Dickens! Market Rasen Town Council honour Christmas with four days full of celebrations
Market Rasen Town Council are excited to announce their forthcoming plans for a traditional Dickensian festive season.
In the words of Charles Dickens, “I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try and keep it all the year.”
On Wednesday 6 December 2023, the Christmas Tree and festive lights will be going up in the Market Place, ready for the start of the celebratory season. The Town Council will also be organising a special light event and children’s party in the Market Place on the same day, with free hot dogs (includes vegetarian/ vegan option) for the under 12’s. Food will be on sale too with music from 4pm to 6pm. Will you be saying “please can l have some more Sir” like Oliver Twist?
On Friday 8 December, a Rotary & Civic Carol Service is to be held in the Methodist Chapel on Union Street from 6.30pm onwards.
The town’s annual Christmas Market will take place on Saturday 9 December in the Market Place. To light up the event there will be stalls, entertainment and refreshments from 12pm to 4pm where we encourage all to join in the Christmas Spirit!!
There will be a Dickensian theme throughout town and people are being encouraged to dress up, no Ebenezer Scrooges allowed! Independent shops are also to come on board with a shop window competition.
Finally, after the success from last year’s Santa Run, plans for this year’s Santa Run arranged by the Rotary, will be held on Sunday 10 December 2023. Further information on how to join in will be published shortly.
Quote from Cllr Jo Pilley, Mayor of Market Rasen expressed her excitement for the upcoming themed events. She said: “With Christmas close at hand, it is the season of hospitality, merriment and openheartedness. We call to our friends and family around us to join us for these special events in celebrating Christmas and the work of Charles Dickens.”
