Top three most unmissable places to visit
There is a fantastic choice of places to visit across the Lincolnshire Wolds and market towns and to give you a helping hand we’ve compiled our top three market towns to give you a flavour of the most unmissable things to do.
A Taste of Tradition
Home to some of the UK’s finest produce you can’t afford to miss out on sampling the Lincolnshire Wolds’ gourmet delights.
Visit the market town of Louth heralded by TV chef Rick Stein as “the finest little market town in Britain”, and the Hairy Bikers as “a great foodie centre, full of wonderful shops”, Louth is the place to sample an amazing array of produce; including the famous Lincolnshire Sausage, Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese, Lincolnshire Plum Bread and Stuffed Chine.
Step Back in Time
Take a trip to the town of Alford and visit the Manor House, reputedly the largest thatched manor house in the country. Still featuring its original design and hiding a beautiful garden, the Manor House is a perfect day out. Alford is also home to the Five Sailed Windmill, one of the last original working windmills, often considered to be the finest in England.
Collectable Charm
Voted one of the best antiques destinations in Britain with a treasure trove of collectables and gifts, Horncastle continues to draw in the crowds with an array of vintage porcelain, jewellery and books.
Take time to find out about the town’s past and visit the 13th century Church of St Mary and the remains of the old Roman wall in the library.
Horncastle was also home to Sir Joseph Banks, the Botanist Explorer who journeyed with Captain Cook on the Endeavour to the South Seas and Australasia.
