April Showers and Easter Eggs!

Welcome to our April blog.  This month we focus on some Easter activities and as the weather warms up, we look at getting outside into the green spaces around Horncastle.

Pottery is a great choice for the kids and adults alike so have a look at these options:

Just one More Bike host Popolo Ceramico Spilsby for the morning on 4th April and have 2 pottery painting sessions for kids - it's been very popular so make sure you book as soon as you can.

There will be a 10am or 11.15am session which you can book.  Anyone booking will need to contact Popolo Ceramico Spilsby for a spot! Their email is spisby@popoloceramico.co.uk

Outdoor Spaces

If you can dodge the showers, take the opportunity to visit some of Horncastle's wonderful outdoor spaces. The duck steps are always popular with the kids and few new benches mean you can sit by the river and watch the world go by. Why not pick up one of the many leaflets from the Joseph Banks Centre and plan a heritage walk around town. There is so much to see and discover! A little further afield is the Community Woodland out on the Boston Road. You can find out more here: Nature reserves – Horncastle Community Woodland - Lincolnshire County Council

Gunby Hall are also holding a whole range of activities over the Easter holidays so be sure to see what is on by visiting their website:

Where is your favourite spot to enjoy some fresh air?

Easter Delights

Do you enjoy traditional Easter treats? How about Simnel cake? The word ‘simnel’ probably originates from the Latin: similar meaning ‘fine flour’.

Hot cross buns are also firm favourites in the UK.  Did you know they are thought to date back to when the Ancient Egyptians baked small, round breads, topped with crosses to appease the gods!  How do you like yours, as they are or toasted?

Easter Crafts

There are so many options for Easter crafting, from painting hard boiled eggs to making cards. We cut out some egg template and just decorated them with everything and anything we could find in the craft box. Pop a hole in the top and suspend them with some thread!

Easter Egg Hunts

It wouldn't be Easter without an Easter egg hunt!  Why not head down to Thimbleby Court LN9 5RA on Thursday 6th April.  Their egg hunt starts at 10.30am, parents will need to help with some of the clues apparently but there are loads of chocolate eggs to collect !  They are also offering light snacks, a colouring competition, Easter hat decorating and crazy golf.
