First mentioned in the Doomsday Book, Great Limber is thought to have been around for approximately 2,000 years. A large part of the village is a conservation area which contains 14 listed buildings, 37 positive buildings and an historic park.

The village is now part of the Brockelsby Estate which has been in the Pelham family since the Tudor period. The Mausoleum, close to the village on private land, is on the site of a Roman tumulus and is a Grade I listed monument of national importance.

A great amount of the history of the village is now detailed in a series of interpretation boards located around the village known as the Great Limber Village Trail.

Follow the route to find the 4 interpretation boards which tell you more about the history of the village. Each board also has QR codes which you can scan for more information.

Step by step instructions
  1. Let's set off!
  2. 1

Starting at the Village Hall Car Park head towards the pond on your left and proceed to The Square.

  3. 2

Continue to the end of the road where you meet a junction.

The first board is located near the bus shelter on your left.

The village shop will be in front of you on the opposite side of the road. The New Inn Pub is directly behind you.

  4. 3

Turn around and return to the pond near the village hall.

The second board is located at the edge of the pond near the junction of St Peter's Close and Church Lane.

The village hall is on your right.

  5. 4

Head up Church Lane until you reach St Peter's Church.

The third board is located at the first gate as you approach the church.

  6. 5

Enter the church grounds and head through the churchyard to the far end where you will see a gate at the right end of the field.

Please be respectful as you walk through the churchyard.

The fourth board is located on the other side of this gate.

  7. 6

Retrace your steps back down Church Lane and back to the Village Hall car park.

  8. You made it! Well done.
