The Lincolnshire Limewoods area, between Wragby, Bardney and Woodhall Spa, is a great place to explore with ancient woodlands, medieval abbey ruins, and a wealth of wildlife and history.

Explore the fascinating area of the Limewoods on two wheels and you wil experience an arable landscape interspersed with areas of ancient woodland and small villages.

Distance: 14 miles (22.5km) Please note distance is approximate.

Terrain: Circular, mostly on quiet roads with an off road section (1.5 miles / 2.5km) on the Water Rail Way (National Cycle Network (NCN) 1. The route is mostly level.

Toilets: Bardney Heritage Centre, Station Road, Bardney, LN3 5UF.

Journey Time @ 8mph: 1 hours and 45 minutes approx plus breaks.

Cycle Hire: Bardney Heritage Centre, Station Road. Opening times: Thursday and Friday, 9.30am to 4pm. Sunday 10am to 4pm. Plus all bank holidays and every day during the summer holidays. To check opening times and bike availability call 01526 397299 or email bardneyheritage@btinternet.com. The centre also has a tea room and information on local history.

Step by step instructions
  1. Let's set off!
  2. 1

    Leave the Heritage Centre and turn right and cycle into the village.

    Follow the road through the village heading towards Southery and following the blue signs for the Water Rail Way winter route and NCN1.

    Turn right (signed Southery),

    In Southery cycle past the pub and through the gate and turn left to join the Water Rail Way towards Woodhall Spa.

    Continue along the Water Rail Way to the old station at Stixwold.

  5. 4

    Immediately after the platform turn left off the Water Rail Way to join a lane.

  6. 5

    Turn left towards Stixwolds village

  7. 6

    Turn left (signed Bucknall).

  8. 7

    At the T-junction turn left (signed Bucknall). Cycle through Bucknall, past the school and village hall.

  9. 8

    Turn right (signed Waddingworth).

  10. 9

    At the T-junction turn left (signed Bardney). Take care on this busier road.

  11. 10

    Cycle through Bardney and at the crossroads go straight ahead along Church Lane.

  12. 11

    At the T-junction turn left and return to the starting point.
